Patch to launch in Newark; Giving back to communities

We're very excited to announce two developments that fit squarely into the Patch mission: launching two Patches in urban neighborhoods of Newark, NJ; and combining the Patch Give5 program with AOL's 30-Day Service Challenge this month.

In partnership with Mayor Cory Booker, Patch will hire editors and launch two sites in Newark in the coming months to bring news and information, community connections, local business opportunities to the residents of this underserved area. Patch has a rich history in NJ - it's where we launched our first three sites in 2009 - and it's an honor to be working with the Mayor's team to bring Patch to these vibrant neighborhoods.

Patch and AOL have always been committed to volunteerism, and the 30-Day Service Challenge, as announced today by Tim Armstrong and Arianna Huffington, represents that continued passion for giving back. We believe that in order to fully serve our Patch communities, we need to not only provide news and information and a platform for residents to connect, but offer our support to local causes and charities that benefit residents every day. Our Give5 program has been an incredibly rewarding experience for us not just as employees but as citizens, so we're certain this new call to action will be as meaningful for us as it will be for our communities.

Last but certainly not least, we're also offering an early glimpse at how Huffington Post and Patch will work together. It's a thrilling time to be a part of this team as we look toward the possibilities - we'll keep you posted here along the way!
