Last night, the Press Club of Long Island 2011 Media Awards took place at the Woodbury Country Club, and Patchers received a non-too-shabby count of 13 awards in online categories! Congratulations to our New York reporters and photographers, Chris R. Vaccaro, Geoffrey Walter, Adina Genn, Taylor K. Vecsey, John Stefans, Mary Ellen Walsh, Jason Molinet, and Richard Slattery!
Patch's winning stories ran the gamut from a 911 call that included the wrong address and delayed help for a dying man, to a Seventh State Senate District race that was too close to call, to a humorous opinion column. Our LI gang garnered first, second, and third place awards in over eight categories.
Richard Slattery of Huntington Patch won an online award for this photo of Town Board Votes Down Avalon Bay Resolution
Aglow with green pride, we are.

1. Does anyone wonder why the Pier Bowl needed all the recent improvement? During hard times with rising taxes and serious job and budget cutting all around our nation, why did our city council approve this pier bowl improvement project that we don't need....a very bad idea at present, strike 1. Maybe it was done to create jobs for local tax paying businesses. Well, the pier bowl was just 'improved' a few years ago by a local contractor. It does not appear that locals were involved this time...strike 2. Now the original brick sidewalks have been
removed and replaced with new slippery and dangerous tile.....strike 3.
Our council definitely needs to understand the meaning of budgeting for priorities and with these3 strikes, we all know what that means come voting time!
